Tonight I sent home a packet for reading comprehension. It is not due until Thursday so do not feel you need to rush tonight. In math I sent home two pages of homework (7-1 and 7-2). 7-1 does not need to be returned to school but 7-2 does. I have two pieces of math homework coming home tonight. We have started working with quarters today and most of the students have already caught on. It would be very beneficial for you to question your student and see if they can tell you anything about the value of a quarter. Spelling test this Friday and the packets are due tomorrow. Thank you to those that have already turned them in. Mrs. A in the library is doing her book report cookie race. Many of the students have been getting the reports done. If any one student completes 4 reports, they will get a free book of their choice.

Well finally Friday is here for us all. That means that Valentine's Day is that much closer. Thanks for all the help in planning things for Monday. It should be very fun. Homework for math tonight is for students to cut out their triangle cards and practice them with an adult. Just cover one number and then show the card and they should be able to figure out what the number is. Reading is going well, I see the fluency increasing rapidly. Please keep practicing the decodables at home. Also, there will not be any spelling next week due to conferences. If you have not signed up for a conference time, please see me soon. Students are allowed to bring one stuffed animal to school tomorrow for our complements jar being filled.

No math homework tonight because we finished yesterday's lesson today. Our class party will be Thursday at 1:45. The students are allowed to bring in one stuffed animal for the day. They did a great job filling their complements jar and also one the January lunch contest. Study spelling words and don't forget the packets are due on Thursday. Math homework is one sheet for 6-3. We are working on fact families. The students did really well with these today. We finished our list poems today in writing. Reading we are still in unit six and trudging along. Please have students study the spelling words and finish their packets. Book orders will be coming home this Friday and are due back by 2-28-11. Some Friday folders are not being brought back on a regular basis and need to come to school so papers do not get lost. It is going to be very cold tomorrow, so please dress your children appropriately.

I am sending home one sheet of homework for math over the weekend. It should be an easy addition page with coloring involved. We will begin adding and subtracting using a number grid on Monday. In reading, the puppets turned out really well. They are on display in the first grade hallway. The children are getting pretty good at writing paragraphs, but we will continue to work on them. Please don't forget to turn in your $2 for the Valentine's party. Pizza is always a great bonus for the students. My class filled our jar today so I will be planning a day to have a small party for them. I will let everyone know when I get it planned out. Specials for next week are:

There is no homework again tonight. I hope the students are not getting used to this. We do start a math exam tomorrow and hopefully all students do well on it. We will also be starting our reading book reports tomorrow. So far the puppets look great! Spelling -study, study, and then study some more. In writing the students are doing a great job writing A Special Day paragraph and learning to edit their work. I am very happy to have made it through a full week without someone getting hurt or needing stitches (Amazing!!!!!!).

We had a great time celebrating the 100th day of school. There is no homework except to study the spelling words and complete the packet. Thanks for helping your children send in their 100 items. It was great to see all the different ideas they came up with. On Thursday I will be having a homework club from 3:45 - 4:45. Students can do homework and get questions answered during this time. I hope everyone had a restfull three day weekend. I know we don't have the Broncos to cheer on but the super bowl is getting close (I can't wait)! Also in my world, my goat is pregnant and I can't wait until we have the babies. No math homework due to the lesson taking two days. In writing we have focused on reviewing the naming part and telling part of sentences. We are also continuing with narrative writing and making paragraphs. Please have the students practice their words tonight. Tomorrow is the last day to turn in canned goods for the National Junior Honor Society. We finished working on odd and even with dominoes today so there is no homework over the weekend. A note is coming home in your student's Friday folder with the name of their reading and math teacher starting in the second quarter. We are beginning ability grouping in order to enhance the learning process for all students. Monday the museum will be coming to our school in the afternoon to give the class on Colorado Wildlife Adventures. If your child did not turn in a permission slip they will have to sit in the office during the class. Then on Tuesday we have scheduled the fire department to come out in the afternoon and talk to the students on safety. Our Halloween party is scheduled for October 28th at 2:00 (yes that is p.m.) I have a fun craft for the kids and a cool packet also. Friday October 15th is our harvest hop. Come in the evening in costume and trick or treat through the school and play some games in the gym.

Homework tonight is lesson 2-6. The students are also bringing home the clocks they made. Please quiz them on the hour hand by asking them to make the hands show a certain time.
Today was the first day of our new dismissal procedure. The specials teachers will now bring the students outside instead of us dealing with the chaos of the east door. This will hopefully make the pickup quicker and smoother as we won't have so many parents to get through.

the students have one sheet of homework for math 2-5. We have started working on analog clocks and the hour hand. Please ask your child which hand is the hour hand if you have an analog clock. It will be good practice. We had a short reading test today so look on line to see your child's grade. We have PE tomorrow so don't forget your tennis shoes.

Sorry this is coming out so late. There is one sheet of homework 2-4 (math). On Mondays, I need to leave immediately after the kids are picked up. Please be on time this day. The rest of the week is not a problem. I will try to make sure this post is complete before I get home in the evenings. Thanks for your understanding I have family obligations on Mondays.

There is no homework over the weekend. Students have been working on some simple addition that makes compliments of ten. They are started to get it, you may want to have them try to explain it to you and see how they do. In writing we have been working on the Ideas trait of the six traits used. They have completed an invitation and are now working on The Important Thing. This is to help them come up with their own ideas and descriptive words to use in sentences.

A new fundraising packet is coming home with your child tonight. They have two weeks to try and raise money for the school. Please do not let them go door knocking without supervision. I really do not want anything to happen to them. Homework is 2-2 (counting up and back). Don't forget to have your child wear tennis shoes for PE tomorrow. The decodable book bags need to be returned to school so I can send home the next set of books. These may seem easy but they are reinforcing skills they have learned. They are a first grade level activity.

Tonight the students are bringing home 1-14, a family letter and 2-1 as actual homework. The family letter is for the parents. If you notice it has all the answers for unit two. This is designed for parents to be able to help their children with homework if they need to. Don't forget to collect those box tops. Maybe we can win the party this year.

There is no homework for tonight. The students took the first half of their math test. It went fairly well for most. Please work with your students on numbers that come before and after as this will show up again on the 2nd half of the test tomorrow. Also, tally marks are still tripping up some, but again they will show up tomorrow on the test. All the at home help they can get would be great. We will continue working on these items in class but I really would like everyone to do well tomorrow. We had a wonderful day and the students are amazing. Please remember that the weather is going to have some cool days and a light weight jacket might be necessary as they are not allowed to stay inside because they're cold.

There is one sheet of homework tonight. It is for math unit 1-13. The students are working on number stories (word problems) with small digits. Most likely they will need help with their homework. Focus also on the bottom portion, what number comes before each number, because this concept will be on their test this week. In writing we are working on the six traits of writing. The first one is ideas. It has gone very well so far. Please ask your children what they remember from the book "When I Am Old With You". Doing this will also help beginning to increase their comprehension. Our specials tomorrow is PE so PLEASE remember tennis shoes.

Students have one page of homework to complete for unit 1-12. It is very important for students to complete their homework because it is reinforcing what they learned during the day. I am also looking for a parent that is willing to be in charge of putting together a Halloween party. If anyone can help, please email me so we can start planning something. It needs to be a small party that we can do in the afternoon, before specials, that includes snacks.

The homework for tonight is in math and is from unit 1-11. Today was a great day and the students started going to their centers. You will start seeing a bag come home with decodables in it. The bag and reading log are the only items that need to be returned. The books need to stay at home so the students can read them to you.

I have a few that are not getting marked off and I do not know if they went with the correct person or not. Once I recognize all parents, I wont have to do the sign out page anymore. Tonight there is one page of homework from lesson 1-10. It has two problems to do, so please don't skip the second one at the bottom of the page. Also just a reminder that tomorrow is free dress day for all students who have not been sent to the office for a disciplinary problem. We have pe tomorrow so do not forget to have your children wear tennis shoes. Friday folders will be coming home Friday and need to be returned on Monday.

All the Dibels and BEAR testing is completed and hopefully we will have the results soon. Please practice all the letters and the sounds they make with your child.
